OUR STORY

In 2017 Family Recovery Society began as a support group to help moms in recovery. What began as a Facebook group quickly turned into weekly meet-ups and support meetings for mothers in recovery serving the Metro Vancouver area of BC Canada. In 2018 we became an official non-profit organization and were able to provide funding for mothers to host support meetings in their homes.

During the pandemic, the need for this support became vital to the survival of our members. We felt a call to add extra supports not just for mothers, but all parents trying to navigate recovery. With in-person meetings shut down we quickly got set up to host meetings online and began serving parents across Canada. Since then our organization has experienced huge growth. With the support of the Canadian Red Cross, we have been able to offer life-changing opportunities and access to support for mothers and fathers who are fighting for a better life for their families.

Our Mission
Supporting Families in Recovery
At Family Recovery Services, we engage, educate, and empower parents recovering from substance use. We increase access to community, education, and resources that reduce intergenerational trauma, build recovery capital, and support long-term recovery.

Our Vision
Empowered Families, Stronger Communities
We envision an inclusive community where families are empowered and free from stigma, isolation, and the effects of addiction, abuse, and poverty. We advocate for parents’ rights and freedoms to help create a fairer, more just society across Canada.

Our Values
Dignity, Respect, and Support for Every Parent
We honor the dignity of every parent and child. By walking alongside our members, we support their unique paths of healing and personal growth, fostering a community built on respect, understanding, and empowerment.

THE UMBRELLA

The umbrella not only symbolizes Family Recovery as the Umbrella Organization for our Mom and Dads groups, we also see it as a symbol of covering our members from the rain. We provide a safe, dry place for parents to gather and receive support. The umbrella is a shield, a layer of protection against the harsh weather that we can experience in recovery.
